The holidays are here — all that’s left to do is pack your suitcase...
However, depending on your destination, getting your luggage ready isn’t always an easy task.
Here are some tips and tricks to help you prepare your baggage before taking off on your next trip!
Carry-on or checked baggage?
Travelling with only one carry-on bag can save you time, money, and make it easier to get around. The challenge is fitting everything you need within the allowed product types and volume limits. Checked baggage, on the other hand, allows you to travel with much heavier suitcases — but you’ll need to check them in at the airport and wait for them upon arrival.
In your carry-on, which stays with you on the plane, make sure to pack your valuables, jewellery, and important documents. You can also bring toiletries, as long as they’re in travel-size containers. Don’t forget to include a change of clothes, just in case your checked baggage is delayed.
When flying with Corsair, you can bring different types of carry-on baggage:
- Backpack
- Duffle bag
- Cabin-size suitcase with wheels (maximum dimensions: 55 x 40 x 20 cm)
- Stroller (subject to certain conditions)
Your checked baggage can hold a larger number of items, within the weight limit set by the airline.

Limit liquids and beauty products when flying
Bring only a minimal amount of liquids, cosmetics, and beauty products. In your carry-on, each item must not exceed 100 ml, with a total limit of 1 litre. These items must be placed in transparent plastic bags measuring 20 x 20 cm. All sharp or pointed objects, such as nail clippers, scissors, or metal nail files, are prohibited. Opt for travel-size containers that comply with airline regulations, or transfer your usual products into approved plastic bottles to make sure you stay within the limits.
Avoid packing too many liquids in your checked baggage, and ensure everything is tightly sealed — unless you want your clothes covered in shampoo... It could also be the perfect opportunity to try local beauty products, such as ylang-ylang in Mayotte or cocoa butter in Martinique.

Weigh all your baggage before flying
Before heading to the airport, weigh all your bags — it’s the best way to avoid excess baggage fees, which can quickly add up before your holiday begins. You can use a bathroom scale at home or the one at your local pharmacy.
If you’re flying with Corsair in Economy Class, make sure your carry-on does not exceed 12 kg. If you're travelling in Premium or Business Class, you may bring a carry-on bag weighing up to 18 kg.
For checked baggage, Economy Class passengers are allowed one 23 kg bag measuring no more than 158 cm. If you're flying from Paris to Africa or if you're a student, you can bring two checked bags.
In Premium Class, you may check in two bags of 23 kg each on all routes (except to Africa, where the allowance is two bags of 32 kg).
In Business Class, you’re allowed two checked bags of 32 kg each on all destinations.
Tip for reducing baggage weight: wear your bulkiest items during the flight — coat, sweater, hiking boots, etc.

Label all your baggage
Whether your luggage is travelling in the cabin or in the hold, it’s essential to label it. You can buy a leather- or plastic-covered luggage tag from a travel goods store, or request a paper tag at the airport.
Make sure to include your contact details: full name, address, phone number, email address, your destination, flight number, and the airline you’re flying with. You can also compile all this information into a QR code and stick it onto the tag. In case of loss or delay, airport staff will be able to reach you more easily.
For every new flight, don’t forget to remove any old baggage tags.

Check the destination on your baggage tag
It’s easy to overlook: to prevent your baggage from ending up in Madagascar when you’re heading to Guadeloupe, always check that the correct destination is printed on your baggage claim tag at check-in.
Keep an eye on your luggage
Once at the airport, never leave your baggage unattended — this helps prevent theft and avoids the risk of it being removed or destroyed. Unattended luggage is considered suspicious and may be subject to security intervention, including removal and destruction by a bomb disposal team.
It’s also essential to stay alert to prevent someone from placing prohibited or suspicious items in your bags. To avoid any unpleasant surprises, never entrust your luggage to someone you don’t know, and do not agree to watch over a stranger’s baggage.

Keep your valuables safe when flying
If you’re travelling with valuables such as jewellery or a camera, it’s best to pack them in your carry-on baggage, which stays with you throughout the flight, rather than in your checked luggage.
Always keep your travel documents — such as your tickets and passport — with you at all times.

Make the most of your packing when flying
To bring everything you need, it’s essential to organise your luggage properly.
If you’re packing fragile items, be sure to protect them by wrapping them in clothes or keeping them in your carry-on. For better weight distribution, place heavier items at the bottom of your suitcase and lighter ones at the top.
If you're a book lover, consider using an e-reader! You’ll be able to enjoy all your favourite books during your holiday with just one compact device.
When it comes to clothing, opt for a capsule wardrobe. This will allow you to mix and match outfits easily without any fashion faux pas. To save space and get a better overview of your travel wardrobe, try rolling your clothes — this reduces bulk and helps keep everything wrinkle-free.
You can also use a packing organiser to separate and store your belongings more efficiently. For bulkier items like a coat or ski suit, consider using a vacuum compression bag to save space in your luggage.

Prohibited items on board
If you're travelling with a carry-on bag, please note that certain items are not allowed.
Do not pack:
- Electrical devices
- Certain car parts
- Sharp objects such as scissors or knives with blades longer than 6 cm
- Tools, such as drills or screwdrivers
- Blunt objects like skateboards or baseball bats
- Weapons, including toy weapons
- Photography equipment (in some cases)
Whether in the cabin or in the hold, flammable items are strictly prohibited. This includes aerosol deodorants, lighters, fireworks, camping stoves, paints and varnishes, chemicals, and mercury thermometers.
Some items, like laptops, are allowed in the cabin but strictly forbidden in the hold due to the risk of overheating.
Each airline has its own rules — be sure to check the specific baggage policy of the airline you're flying with.
