Before your Marseille to Mayotte flight

When to book a Marseille to Mayotte flight?

Located between the African coast of Mozambique on one side and the island of Madagascar on the other, Mayotte has a tropical maritime climate. The dry or cool season lasts from April to November, while the hot season, which also brings rain and storms, lasts from November to May.

It’s best to travel during the dry season. You’ll be able to easily explore all the island’s treasures and enjoy every activity. Lounge on white sandy beaches, enjoy a sea excursion, and don’t miss a diving session at one of the most beautiful spots in the world. Also plan a hike up Mount Choungui — it’s a must on the island.

What are the requirements before your Marseille to Mayotte flight?

There are two ways to reach Mayotte from the Phocaean city.
From Marseille Provence Airport, board a direct flight lasting over 14 hours. Or use Train + Air service. From Saint-Charles station, take a TGV InOui to the Parisian station Massy. A shuttle then takes you to Paris Orly. After police checks and checking in your hold luggage, board your direct 10-hour flight to Dzaoudzi
Note that the time difference is 2 hours in winter and 1 hour in summer.

Since Mayotte is a French territory, administrative procedures are simplified: you only need a valid national ID card or a passport. The currency used is also the euro, so no exchange is necessary. Lastly, be aware that there is a malaria risk. Even though no vaccine is required, take the necessary health precautions.

The ideal suitcase includes practical and lightweight clothing, a swimsuit, good hiking shoes, and adequate sun protection.

Upon arrival at Dzaoudzi-Pamandzi airport

You’ve just completed a long journey. Getting to your hotel to drop off your luggage is often the first step.

If your accommodation is on Grande-Terre, from the airport located on Petite-Terre, you’ll need to take the ferry to cross over. Expect to pay €15 with a car and just €0.75 for a pedestrian.
For the duration of your stay, we recommend renting a private car. Public transportation is very limited on the island. Four agencies at the airport will help you choose the right vehicle based on your itinerary and budget. However, stay cautious: due to road conditions and the presence of many animals along dirt tracks, driving can sometimes be challenging.

Finally, you can get around town using a city taxi (shared taxi). Inland, bush taxis serve the central, southern, and northern parts of the island. Fares range from €1 to €5.
